About 5 weeks before we were scheduled to move from Buffalo to San Diego I noticed that my calendar was pretty much full with the exception of one day. So I decided to do what any overworked, overwhelmed, exhausted person would do…I scheduled a mini session day! In this particular case I wasn’t just testing my sanity, but I wanted to help a great cause. My good friend, Sarah Bridgeman of sj.bridgeman photography, was working on raising funds for a volunteer trip to Sierra Leone, Africa and I really wanted to figure out a way to help her out. I thought it would be fun to partner with her for a day of mini family sessions and donate the proceeds to the organization she would be traveling with, let them LOL. We quickly put the plan in motion and had a fantastic turnout (and gorgeous autumn weather)! It was such a fun day and I’m thrilled I was able to spend time with some of my favorite clients and friends (as well as some new ones!) before the move <3
I don’t think I can stress enough how important it is (and how good it feels!) to give back. Last week I had the pleasure of attending Jeremy Cowart’s LifeFinder tour in LA with Candice Benjamin and I was blown away by the impact of his volunteer projects. There were multiple photos and stories that moved me to tears and couldn’t help but feel the urge to do something (I have since signed up for a Help-Portrait event happening in my community). While I’d love to take a trip to Africa like Sarah at some point in the future, for now I’m going to adopt the philosophy of “think globally, act locally” and try to make a difference here in small, yet meaningful, ways.
Here are a few of my favorite photos from that beautiful day back in October…
If you know anyone interested in doing a mini session in San Diego have them shoot me an email at [email protected]. I’ll be offering these fast and fun sessions through the end of the year!
